Vera Wang Spring 2012 Collection

18 Oct

Vera Wang is at the forefront of wedding fashion.  So when her new collection comes out, the wedding world watches to see what she comes up with.  For her Spring 2012 collection, she played off black and nude undergarments.  Vera describes the collection as “both mysterious and sexy, frivolous and fun, with transparent wisps of carefully organized tulle.”  The collection will be in the NYC boutique in late October and LA to follow.

Scratch Off Save-the-Dates from Martha Stewart Weddings

21 Jul

We saw this super cute save-the-date idea and had to share!  Check out this how-to guide from Martha Stewart Weddings.
.

You won the lottery when you found each other, so send this cheeky save-the-date card to let guests share in your luck. After scraping off the paint with a penny, they’ll hit the jackpot: your wedding date!

Tools and Supplies

  • Ink-jet and laser printer
  • 8 1/2-by-11-inch card stock in white or cream (you will print 2 cards per sheet)
  • Craft knife and metal ruler
  • Metallic acrylic paint (we used Golden Artist Colors acrylic paint in iridescent silver, $4.75, utrechtart.com)
  • Liquid dish soap
  • 1/4-inch-wide watercolor brush
  • A7 envelopes (5 1/4 by 7 1/4 inches)
  • Pennies

Basic How-To

1. Download our PDF file, and open it using Adobe Acrobat Reader (if you are using a Mac, use Reader instead of Apple’s Preview application). Most browsers already include this program, but if you have trouble downloading the file or would like to upgrade Acrobat Reader, you can obtain the latest version of the software for free from Adobe’s website.

2. Replace the placeholder text with your own (you only need to do this in one box; the form will automatically fill in the rest), and print onto card stock.

3. Use the craft knife and metal ruler to cut between the crop marks (do not cut all the way to the edges of the paper; this will leave the crop marks intact around all the edges to guide subsequent cuts).

4. Combine one part dish soap with two parts metallic acrylic paint. Paint neatly over the number in the center of the hearts with a thin layer. Let it dry thoroughly, about 1 hour, and then add a second layer. Let second coat dry thoroughly (about 1 more hour) before putting the cards in the envelopes.

5. Mail the card with a “lucky” penny for scratching (you will need extra postage for this).

It’s Miranda and Matt’s Wedding Day!!!

28 May

Miranda and Matt are HUGE Disney fans.  They love everything about Disney. So when we started planning their private estate wedding, we came up with a whimsical Alice in Wonderland theme, which has taken on a life of its own.  From the invitations to the engagement shoot, Miranda and Matt went into the rabbit hole and we cannot wait to share all of the details of their big day.  In the meantime, below are some pictures from their engagement shoot.  A special thanks to Frank from I Against I Photography for sharing these AMAZING images with us.

CONGRATULATIONS MR AND MRS TELLES and thank you for including us in your big day!!!!

Color Combo of the Week: Burnt Orange and Sky Blue

22 Apr

Looking for some color inspiration?  Just like our brides, we are always looking for some great, non-traditional color combinations.  One of the best online wedding resources, theknot.com recently released 20 color combos we love.

This week’s featured color combo is Burnt Orange & Sky Blue. This bright duo works perfectly for Southern California weddings, matching the clear blue skies and brilliant sunsets. Use it for a rustic country style wedding or a beach affair.

An Alice in Wonderland Preview

3 Mar

One of our very fun brides is doing an Alice in Wonderland themed wedding.  It fits perfectly with the private Fallbrook Estate where she is having her wedding.  She just did her engagement shoot this week and we can’t wait to see the pictures!  In the meantime, we wanted to share the first look at her invitations…

US Grant Royal Wedding Showcase

28 Feb

Yesterday was my absolute favorite bridal show of the year, the US Grant Royal Wedding Showcase.  This is the show where event designers, wedding planners, florists and more bring out their A game to showcase fresh designs for San Diego brides and grooms.  We were thrilled to to be invited to participate and put together a tablescape inspired by modern romance.

A special thanks to Blush Botanicals for their amazing floral design, JMC Events for lighting the space with uplighting and pinspotting, Concepts Event Design for the linens and chairs and Classic Party Rentals for the settings. Photo by Bryan N. Miller.

Choosing Wine for Your Wedding

4 Feb

We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE wedding wine tasting parties.  It is a great way to have your friends help you to select the perfect wine to serve for your big day.

In fact, recently, we attending a wedding wine tasting party for one of our September brides.  Surprisingly, some of the less expensive wines were winners.  It’s amazing how much pretty labels and brand names influence our perception of products.  The BEST time to do the party (in our opinion) is during BevMo’s 5 Cent Sale.

Here’s Martha Strewart Weddings’ take on planning a wine tasting party:

Home in on the perfect vino for your cocktail hour or reception by inviting friends over to sample a few selections with you at least six weeks ahead of time. Offer them the three best options, but cover the labels with blank sheets of paper that have been numbered to ID each one (this way, testers can’t be swayed by brand names or cool packaging). Then swirl, sniff, swish, swallow, and have each person jot his or her thoughts on the bottles — until you’ve tasted a winner.
