At First Comes Love, we like to host open houses so that brides can check out different wedding vendors in a casual environment (and with a cocktail in hand!)  Our last one was a few weeks ago at The Loft at UCSD.

A special thanks to all of the vendors who participated including:  Our hosts, The Loft at UCSD, Zanzibar Catering, Darryn St. John Photography, Haydee’s Creative Flowers, Beck’s Entertainment, ONEHOPE Wine and Enticing Tables.

Estancia Wedding Ceremony

We LOVE Estancia.

They have plenty of amazing spaces for weddings of all sizes.  Their wedding locations consist of a private rose garden, two courtyards, pool deck, and two elegant ballrooms.

THE FEEL – Estancia cultures a relaxing atmosphere with rustic, Rancho-style surroundings ideal for outdoor wedding ceremonies and receptions. From the vibrant, aromatic gardens and scenic architecture to an environment that emphasizes comfort, relaxation, and a truly memorable experience, Estancia offers one of San Diego’s most sought after wedding locations!

PRE WEDDING OFFERINGS – Prior to a wedding, the girls can pamper themselves with any fabulous treatments in the hotel’s 7,000 square foot spa while the guys go golfing at Torrey Pines Golf Course. As well, guests enjoy al fresco dining while relaxing by the pool.

BALLROOMS – Estancia’s ballrooms are designed with soft earth tones: hand-woven carpets, Villeroy & Boch china, and Fili D’Oro linens.

Rock the Rehearsal: Candelas in Coronado

20 Jun

Looking for a rehearsal (or wedding) location with unbeatable views of the San Diego skyline?  Look no further than Candelas on the Bay in Coronado.  My first pick for a location to sit would be the patio.  It has breath taking views, can be rented out for a private event and has heaters for when the bay breeze hits.

FOOD: Pegged as contemporary cuisine, Candelas features a wide variety of menu items, sure to fit every guest’s preferences.  Also, if you would like to minimize hassle and keep budgets in check, they offer pre-set menus.  Also, their sangria is awesome and they can prepare a set pitcher for your event, so guests can sip as they please.

STYLE: Modern, chic with an old world flair.  Their in-house entertainment varies, so it is a good idea to see what’s on the schedule for the day of your event.

WHY HERE?  You truly can’t beat the views.  Also, for those of your guests who are out of town, Candelas on the Bay is a great way to give them a taste of San Diego.

Fun at The Knot’s Party

28 May

We had a great time at The Knot’s annual shindig on Wednesday (and even won the raffle!) and wanted to share some pictures from the event.  The event was at Scripps Seaside Forum, which is a FABULOUS venue for a private seaside affair, especially in warm weather months.  Thanks to The Knot for a lovely evening!

Also, there are some great ideas in here for a beach chic wedding.  We especially love hanging the starfish with rope!  And shout out to Joes on the Nose, who provided fabulous lattes (so yummy!)

Venue of the Month: Prado Balboa Park

23 May

Our first venue of the month is a San Diego classic.  Situated in the heart of Balboa Park, Prado offers a ceremony location along with three distinct ballrooms for weddings.

THE TERRACE – The only ceremony location that is managed by Prado is the terrace.  It is beautiful, but the style of the terrace is different from the traditional walk down the aisle with two sides.  Near the alter, there is limited seating, which is generally reserved for close family.  Beyond that, the remainder of the guests sit on a second tier, a bit further away.

GRAND BALLROOM – My personal favorite reception location, the grand ballroom is dark wood with classic Spanish style.  It fits up to 400 guests and features hardwood floors, hand crafted ceilings, custom chandeliers and a full stage, which is great for your DJ or band.

LOGGIA ROOM – Perfect for smaller weddings, the Loggia Room technically fits 100 guests, but is better for a party of 80 or less.  With Spanish tile floors and blue-green painted wood beams, this second floor room is romantic and quaint.

ALHAMBRA ROOM – The smallest of Prado’s offerings, the Alhambra Room comfortably fits 60-70 guests (the capacity is 80)  and features high ceilings.  We personally love this room for a lunchtime event.

THE FOOD – Prado is run by the Cohn Family, which run a variety of restaurants throughout San Diego.  The food is great and they offer buffet and plated options with a lot of available extras.  The only bummer here is that they do not offer menu tastings, so you will have to choose from the paper menu.  Having said that, your guests won’t be disappointed.

THE CAKE – Prado works exclusively with Flour Power, so if you get married here, the cake will be from there.  Flour Power has great cakes (and you will be able to do a tasting here).  Just make sure that you provide them with a design or some ideas.  They do great work.

LOCATIONS FOR PHOTOGRAPHY – One of the best things about getting married at Prado is you are steps away from some of the most picturesque locations in San Diego.  You will have amazing wedding pictures here, so that is a HUGE plus.

Check out www.balboaparkweddings.com for more information on weddings here or call the office and ask for Andrea, who will take great care of you.
