It’s Katy and Ben’s Wedding Day!!!

13 Aug

Sometimes, when you know, you know.  Our wedding for this evening is a super sweet couple Katy and Ben.  They came to us a few months ago, newly engaged and beaming about each other and how ready they were to be married.  Having been together for just under a year, the couple met in Washington DC.  He’s a Marine, she’s a lawyer and when duty called Ben to San Diego, he couldn’t bear the thought of moving without Katy.  But he didn’t want to move her out to the West Coast as his girlfriend, he wanted her to be be his side no matter where his service called him.  So he got down on one knee and asked Katy to marry him.

With just a few months to plan their big day, we created a wedding that breaks the traditional mold.  And what will happen tonight is exactly the vision the two had in mind.  An indoor ceremony, surrounding the couple in white and candlelight, followed by a lounge style reception washed in peacock colors.  Instead of a formal sit down dinner, the couple has brought in lounge furniture, sheer white draping and food stations (we can’t wait for the mac n’ cheese bar).

An early congratulations to the stunning couple.  We wish you many years of happy wedded bliss!!!

CONGRATULATIONS KATY AND BEN!!!!  A special thank you to Darryn St. John Photography for sharing their engagement photos!

It’s Amy and Brian’s Wedding Day!!!

4 Jun

Amy and Brian are getting married today, at the intimate and beautiful Thursday Club in Point Loma. Overlooking the water, this amazing couple will exchange vows followed by a quintessentially San Diego reception with family and friends.  Since most of their guests are from out-of-town, we’ve worked with the couple to incorporate elements of San Diego that they love to personalize their wedding.  From escorting their guests to the venue in an Old Town Trolley to serving local craft beers this celebration is going to be fabulous.

We are in love with the vendors we get to work with on this wedding too! Ceremonies by Bethel will be marrying them, Photos by Chana and Don will be capturing the day, Coast Catering will be serving delectable delights, Concepts Event Design and Classic Party Rentals will make the space pop, Sumi’s Oven is creating cakes for each table, Blush Botanicals is providing beautiful flowers, Pete Goslow will be serenading the crowd and AC Makeup will be highlighting the beauty of the bridal party.  And of course, the ladies of First Comes Love will be there to bring everything together.

CONGRATULATIONS AMY AND BRIAN and thank you for including us in your big day!

A special thank you to Photos by Chana and Don for sharing their engagement pictures.

US Grant Royal Wedding Showcase

28 Feb

Yesterday was my absolute favorite bridal show of the year, the US Grant Royal Wedding Showcase.  This is the show where event designers, wedding planners, florists and more bring out their A game to showcase fresh designs for San Diego brides and grooms.  We were thrilled to to be invited to participate and put together a tablescape inspired by modern romance.

A special thanks to Blush Botanicals for their amazing floral design, JMC Events for lighting the space with uplighting and pinspotting, Concepts Event Design for the linens and chairs and Classic Party Rentals for the settings. Photo by Bryan N. Miller.

Laura and Brett’s Amazing Wedding

13 Nov

For those of you who know me (or have talked to me in the past 7 days), you know that this past week has been out of the ordinary.  Last Friday, Jerry from Beck’s Entertainment called me with a question “What are you doing next Friday?”  Normally, this simple question leads to coffee or lunch, but on that day, it was much more profound.

It lead to a celebration of pure love, an outpouring of support from the San Diego wedding community and a very whirlwind week, where we planned a wedding in six days.

You see, we were a part of planning a wedding for an incredibly brave young couple.  Brett Fafard and his fiancée of three days, Laura Kemp,  have been together for two years, spending much of their time together battling Brett’s testicular cancer.  Prior to his diagnosis, Brett was an avid biker, runner, and all around athlete.  When he was diagnosed in June 2009, the cancer had already spread to his abdomen, liver, lungs, and neck.  Brett has fought the cancer through many rounds of chemo, surgeries, bone marrow transplants, and radiation; however the aggressive disease has continued to spread to his lungs and brain.  Doctors estimate he now has two months to live.

Laura has been a tremendous support, and after many months of contemplating marriage, and one very close call when Brett suffered a grand mal seizure from his brain tumors, it became clear to the couple that they had to marry before he passes away.

As soon as I heard the story, I knew that the San Diego wedding community would come together to help.  And they did.  With one mass email and Facebook post about the story, 22 AMAZING San Diego wedding vendors came together to throw Laura and Brett a wedding.

The wedding happened yesterday evening as the sun set at Silver Strand State Beach in Coronado.

MANY, MANY thanks to the following wedding vendors who came together so quickly and donated their services and talent to help this couple have a very special and memorable wedding.

Olga and Jeff’s Black and White Bahia Wedding

22 Aug

*please note that these are NOT professional photos.  I just want to give you a sneak peek at some of the details of this wedding.

Olga and Jeff celebrated their wedding on August 21st, 2010 at the beautiful Bahia.  They got married on the beach at Bahia and wanted to incorporate a black, white and red theme. Using subtle accents of red throughout the wedding, we were able to accomplish this dramatic color palate without outshining the natural beauty of the beach.

The bay was a perfect backdrop for the ceremony

Jeff and Olga asked all of their friends to sign rocks with well wishes and messages for their future together.

The reception, in the Del Mar room, featured a black and white theme with amazing rentals from Concepts.

The sweetheart table contrasted the rest through a white and red color scheme.

Cake provided by Extraordinary Desserts

Rose petals add a romantic feel to the cake table.

The rocks were compiled to symbolize the coming together of friends and family into their marriage.

Here’s the vendors we used:
Wedding Planner – First Comes Love
Venue – Bahia. Thanks to Kelly and Allison at Bahia for pulling this together.
Rentals – Concepts Event Design
Flowers – Blossom Design
Cake – Extraordinary Desserts
DJ – Beck’s Entertainment

Concept Open House

24 Apr

Here at First Comes Love Weddings,  we are total suckers for a good success story.  Like the majority of wedding professionals, Concepts Event Design started in a living room somewhere in San Diego.  But with a lot of hard work, determination and creativity, Haydee and her team have moved into a beautiful space in National City.  On Thursday, they opened it up to San Diego wedding professionals for a killer bash.  There were great table displays, treats from caterers (including Coast Catering and Giuseppe) and Jerry Beck spinning on the 1s and 2s.  All in all, it was a great night!

Check out some of the fun dispays.  My favorite was the Patron table put together by Haydee’s Creative Flowers (one of our favorites!)
