Every month, we’ll be highlighting destinations across the globe that offer honeymooners an AMAZING getaway. First off is my all-time favorite destination, the Republic of Maldives. Some of you may be wondering where in the world this is. Honestly, I had never heard of them either until I started planning my own honeymoon. But trust me, if you have the chance to go there, you will not be disappointed.
WHERE IN THE WORLD? The Maldives is located off the coast of Sri Lanka, in the Indian Ocean, right near the equator.
HOW DO I GET THERE? Here’s the tricky part. So the Maldives isn’t a hugely popular destination for US travelers because of the distance. It is literally across the world. You can fly through London, Dubai or most major cities in Asia. From Colombo, Sri Lanka, there are several flights daily as well. What’s cool is, when you land in Male, you get picked up by your resort in a speed boat. No cars, crystal clear water. It truly is paradise.
WHY GO? When you visualize an island paradise, this is it. Frequently featured in Islands and other luxury travel magazines, the Madives is hundreds of small islands and features amazing diving, incredible sea life, crystal clear (and warm) waters, great weather year round and over water bungalows.
WHAT’S IT GOING TO COST ME? As I mentioned, the Maldives are a luxury destination. The creme de la creme. A trip here is going to cost you some serious coin. About $500-$1000+ a night on hotel stays and $1,500 on airfare. BUT, if you have hotel points, there is a Sheraton and W Hotel (Starwood properties) and a few other large hotel brands.
BEST FOR: Beach lovers, divers, surfers, romantics
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO – You are not allowed to bring alcohol into the country, period. They will confiscate it at the airport, so don’t even try it.
